24 Hours in Amsterdam
We were on a mission. Traveling from Germany to England, we decided to take a solid 24 hour detour to see what adventure Amsterdam could bring us.
THE CANALS
In every direction there is a canal with small boats across from quaint townhomes. This is the epitome of Amsterdam. Visiting during Winter meant we were looking for anywhere and everywhere cozy. Outside on the water just wasn’t ideal for our wannabe winter attire. Floridians just aren’t equipped for that! Next time, we are taking a summer trip to the Netherlands and doing a river tour!
THE BAKERIES
Carbs, carbs, and more carbs! We followed this bakery with our olfactory sense, no judgement. The sweet smell of fresh bread and Dutch coffee reeled us in. Greeted by a cheerful, “Goedemorgen!” We left this small shop 10 euros lighter and 2lbs heavier. Again, no regrets!
I AMSTERDAM SIGN
Americans…everywhere! It’s somewhat impossible to visit the sign and take a solo picture. After waiting in line for 30 minutes to take a sub par pic…we figured it out ( a Little too late because the sun had set).
Remember this… Stand on the other side of the sign, the letters will obviously be backwards, then get on any picture editing App and revert your image. The letters will be inverted correctly and you my friend, just beat the system! (you’re welcome)
PATAT FRITES
Try Dutch fries on any street corner! The smaller the whole in the wall, the better the frites. With more than 20 options for toppings and sauces, it’s inevitable to not find one your heart belongs to. Here are a few of the most popular:
- Garlic Mayonnaise
- Avocado Mayonnaise
- Sate/Peanut Sauce
- Curry Ketchup
- Armageddon (fav!)
- Sweet and Sour
“COFFEESHOPS”
When in Amsterdam… do like the Dutch. I can assume you’re thinking what’s a visit to the dam without trying the green? Well, still a great visit! Trust me!
but here is what we learned…
1.) You will not find maryjane in a coffee house
2.) You will not find Maryjane in a café.
3.) You will not find Maryjane in a Coffee – Shop.
4.) You will only find her in a “Coffeeshop” <– notice no space in between coffee and shop.
MIND…BLOWN.
We skipped the bike tours and the river rides… but we ate and were very happy about it! I recommend more than 24 hours in Amsterdam, btw! Nevertheless, the ambiance is great and I will be back to cross some more things off the list! Tell me about your visit to Amsterdam!
