Feel at Home in Lil Yangon, Myanmar
Recently, we took a trip to Myanmar to scope out the local culture and the thousands of pagodas they have throughout the country. The first stop was Yangon, which has a unique character that you cannot find anywhere else in SE Asia. With thousands of stalls placed in the middle of the sidewalks, screaming bus attendants, and cars honking for every reason possible, it is easy to get a little overwhelmed. We, however, found a great place to escape the bustling city. On lower 39th street, right in the middle of downtown Yangon, we stayed at Lil Yangon for 3 nights. Right when you walk in, you immediately feel a sense of relief and comfort. With the staffs constant smiles and friendliness, you will always feel at home here.
After giving us our welcome drink and free towels, they brought us upstairs to a huge room with 8 beds and lockers big enough for 2 bags below the beds. Unfortunately, there are no private rooms at this little hostel, but each bed has a curtain, an outlet, and a light, so you can get privacy whenever you need. The bathroom matches the cleanliness of the hostel as well, with each toilet having its own room with a calming rain shower head.
One of the best parts of Lil Yangon is the many places you have to meet fellow travelers. There is a balcony with a great view of the street as well as a huge room on the first floor with a table, where you can order food, drinks, or play any of the games provided. If you just want to relax yourself, you can watch one of the movies playing on the TV in the main room while sitting on one of the comfortable couches.
Overall, Lil Yangon was a great place to stay. With its cleanliness, a staff that is always willing to help, and comfortable beds, I genuinely enjoyed my stay here and would definitely stay here again if I ever return to Yangon.
